Dempsey grew up in Lewiston, Maine. He made his theatre debut in “Torch Song Trilogy” a play produced in San Francisco. Other parts of his early career include "On Golden Pond" for the Maine Acting Company, "Brighton Beach Memoirs", the international touring production, directed by Gene Saks and "The Subject Was Roses" at the Roundabout Theatre New York. He is recently returned to the stage at the Pasadena Playhouse in the role of Algernon Moncrieff in “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
Patrick Dempsey starred in “Grey's Anatomy”, his interpretation of Dr. Derek Shepherd in 2007 won him a Screen Actors Guild Award and the People's Choice Award. Patrick was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2006 and 2007 for the Best Actor and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. In 2001 Dempsey won an Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Aaron Brooks, the mentally unstable brother of Sela Ward in “Once and Again”, the series acclaimed by critics. In 2003, Dempsey made a guest appearance on “Will & Grace”; NBC's hit series, in the role of Will’s lover.
The film career of Patrick Dempsey is just as full, starring in the romantic comedy “Made of Honor”, the Disney film “Enchanted”, the critically acclaimed “Freedom Writers” staring alongside Hilary Swank and the high-profile role as the fiancé of Reese Witherspoon's character in 'Sweet Home Alabama'. In 2004, Dempsey co-starred in “Iron Jawed Angels”, the film highly acclaimed HBO production, alongside Hilary Swank and Angelica Huston. Dempsey became famous in the unlikely role of the seducer; in the 80s classics 'Can't Buy Me Love' and 'Loverboy'.
