How To Apply Blusher And Bronzer

Add a pop of colour to your cheeks – instantly brighten your complexion for every season with a hint of carefully applied blusher or bronzer. No matter your face shape, with the right techniques you can transform your features for a defined look. Applying bronzer or blusher is a key beauty basic, but it’s important to use the right shade and application technique for you. So how do you choose the right shade of blush or bronze to complement your skin tone? And how do you decide between the two? In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know to apply bronzer and blusher like a pro.

How to decide which blusher or bronzer is right for you

As a general rule, if you have a warm or olive complexion it’s best to opt for a blusher or bronzer with a yellow or orange undertone. If your undertones are cool, opt for a blusher or bronzer with a blue-based tone. These colour combinations are designed to complement your skin for a natural-looking finish.

Prepare your skin with our True Match Foundation, applied before bronzer or blusher to give you a perfectly even skin tone to build upon.

From here, apply the L’Oreal True Match Blush Palette, available in pink, apricot and honey tones to perfectly match warm, cool or neutral skin tones.

Looking for a bronzed glow? Our WULT Bronzing Powder offers glimmering glamour with a touch of colour. The two sun-kissed shades can be used separately or combined to illuminate the skin.

How to apply bronzer

Correct bronzer placement accentuates the areas that the sun would usually tan.

Use the L'Oreal Paris Powder Brush to apply your bronzer to the top of the forehead along your hairline, down the bridge of your nose and over the tops of your cheeks. You can even add a little to your chin and neck. Start with a light dusting and build up the colour for the look you’re trying to achieve.

You can also use bronzer to accentuate your features and softly contour your face. Use our Face Blender Brush to sweep the bronzer along the hollows of your cheeks and around the jawline. This will help create a slimmer, more defined look. The Blender Brush has been specifically created to provide a natural, airbrushed finish – perfect for blending your bronzer to avoid streaks and lines.

How to apply blusher

How you apply your blusher depends on the shape of your face. For heart-shaped faces, apply your blush in a curved line from your temple to the bottom of your cheekbone. This creates an inward ‘C’ shade and accentuates your cheekbones, tapering towards the chin and jaw.

If you have a rounder face, avoid applying blusher to the apples of your cheeks. To add more definition, suck in your cheeks and apply the blusher to the line underneath your cheekbones.

Or for those with square jawlines, apply your blush directly to the apples of your cheek in a circular motion. This technique will help to soften angular features by drawing attention to the roundest part of your face.

How to apply blusher and bronzer together

If you’re applying both bronzer and blusher to your face, be conscious of how you layer the colours together. If you apply the bronzer after your blush, the blending of the two together can cause a muddy colour, causing your cheekbones to appear much darker.

Apply the bronzer first, giving your face a contoured definition. By doing this, the makeup absorbs into your skin for a natural colour. You can then apply a small amount of blusher as required, blending it into the bronzer.
