First Wrinkles

Everything you want to know about first wrinkles

We all remember our mums and grans peering into the mirror and moaning about their wrinkles. And then suddenly it became our turn. Apparently we were only 24!
According to a survey published in the fashion section of The Telegraph, we Brits begin to worry about lines and wrinkles at the tender age of 24! 2,000 women were questioned by data specialists CACI and the results showed that women as young as 21 were beginning to use anti-wrinkle treatments.

But Is There A Real Need To Use Anti-Ageing Treatments In Our 20s?
Isn't applying anti-ageing treatments during our 20s just a wee bit too soon? Well, it's never too early or too late to start looking after and protecting our skin. The fact of the matter is that our bodies begin to age from 20 onwards - cellular ageing kicks in and there's nothing we can do about it. We can however launch preemptive strikes! We can start to keep signs of ageing at bay by making sure we moisturise our skin. This will help deal with any damage caused by the sun, smoking, nights on the town and junk food. By moisturising, our skin is left protected and and able to renew its cells.

How Can We Prevent The Signs Of Ageing?
First and foremost, avoid the sun. Even though it can be good for our health, UV rays wreak havoc with our skin and wrinkles are proof enough. If we over do the sunbathing or don't protect our skin, we'll end up with liver spots, wrinkles and other signs of ageing skin. So it's really important to use a sunscreen or moisturiser that contains an SPF. By starting skincare in your 20s, you can delay the signs of ageing skin. However, lifestyle factors also play a part; our skin ages more quickly if we smoke, drink alcohol and succumb to our sugar cravings. In other words, if you want to save wrinkles for another day and keep your baby soft skin for as long as possible, then now's the time to start protecting your skin to the max!

Whatever age you are, sooner or later wrinkles will appear - an unkindly reminder that time's going by and our skin has started to age.

Wrinkles are ridges that form when our epidermis loses suppleness. But there's a difference between expression lines and deep wrinkles. The former are caused by repeated facial expressions that gradually become etched on our face. The latter appear when our dermis begins to sag or when furrows deepen due to dehydration.

Our body naturally produces collagen and hyaluronic acid, two molecules that keep our skin supple, plump and youthful. But over time, our bodies produce less. Our skin becomes thinner, more fragile and less supple. The result is wrinkles.

Frown lines, crow's feet, laughter lines, lip wrinkles... It's not the end of the world but it's worth investing in anti-ageing treatments to keep these little devils at bay. Moisturising your skin will keep it supple and comfortable, and opting for an anti-ageing treatment will make up for reduced levels of elastin and collagen. Simple measures to apply as soon as you spot your first wrinkle!

None of us are the same when it comes to our first wrinkles: some of us will notice the first signs of aging at around 20, others much later. But don't panic: just take action to combat these first wrinkles!

Inevitable Skin Ageing
Skin aging is inevitable. The cause: firstly, passing time, obviously. But then there’s genetics, the environment and our lifestyle. And our skin care routine. Some won't see their first wrinkles until 35, but for most of us, at 25 the first signs of aging start to appear. With age, our bfcroodies produce less collagen and elastin, the two proteins that give our skin firmness and elasticity.

Our first wrinkles tend to appear at the crow's feet and around the eye contour. We often forget lines linked to dry skin. These are the famous dehydration lines. The skin gets dehydrated more easily and its cell renewal mechanism is less active. So, it's time to go into anti aging mode!

How Do I Fight My First Wrinkles?
The main way of preserving your skin's youth is simple: hydration! This should be a fundamental part of your skin care routine to fight signs of aging: your skin will stay beautiful and youthful. A hydrating cream will plump up lines and your first wrinkles and prevent them from reappearing. Go for skin care products with a formula rich in antioxidants, which form a real protective shield against the free radicals behind skin aging, and in anti aging ingredients. Try pro-xylane, which will retighten tissues, hyaluronic acid, which will boost hydration and plump up wrinkles, and LHA, which will smooth out the skin. And, don't forget to protect yourself from the sun – whether in summer or winter, at the beach, in the mountains or even in the city – to avoid the harmful effects of UV rays, which accelerate skin aging and encourage the appearance of wrinkles, lines and dark spots. There’s no need to start using night cream at 20, but an eye contour product may be useful. The first wrinkles tend to make their appearance in this fragile area of the face, which requires very specific treatment.
