Usage

BEFORE YOU START

REMEMBER TO CONDUCT YOUR ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE. COVER YOUR SHOULDERS WITH A TOWEL AND PUT ON THE GLOVES PROVIDED.

1.PREPARATION

OPEN YOUR COLOURING CREAM BY UNSCREWING THE CAP AND REMOVING THE GREY RING. RESCREW THE CAP TO PIERCE THE TUBE. YOUR COLOURING CREAM (1a) WILL ALREADY BE PIERCED FOLLOWING THE SKIN ALLERGY TEST. POUR IT ENTIRELY INTO THE DEVELOPER (1b). CLOSE THE APPLICATOR TIP AND SHAKE IT TO ACHIEVE A COMPLETELY EVEN MIXTURE. TWIST OFF THE APPLICATOR TIP IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID THE BOTTLE BURSTING. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO USE THE COMB APPLICATOR – IDEAL FOR MID-LENGTH OR STRAIGHT HAIR.

2.COLOUR

OPTION 1 – IF YOU REGULARLY COLOUR YOUR HAIR (EVERY 4-6 WEEKS) AND WANT TO COVER YOUR GREYS OR WANT TO STAY CLOSE TO YOUR CURRENT COLOUR.

1.APPLY. START APPLYING THE MIX AT THE ROOTS OF DRY, UNWASHED HAIR. USE THE BOTTLE TIP TO SEPARATE THE HAIR SECTION BY SECTION.
2.MASSAGE. ONCE THE ROOTS ARE SATURATED, MASSAGE AND LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 20 MINUTES
3.APPLY. NEXT, APPLY THE REMAINING PRODUCT THROUGHOUT THE LENGTHS AND ENDS. LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 10 MINUTES.

OPTION 2 – IF YOU’RE COLOURING YOUR HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR YOUR HAIR HAS NOT BEEN COLOURED IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, OR YOU ARE RADICALLY CHANGING THE COLOUR OF YOUR HAIR.

1.APPLY. START APPLYING THE COLOUR MIXTURE AT THE ROOTS OF DRY, UNWASHED HAIR. USE THE BOTTLE TIP TO SEPARATE THE HAIR SECTION BY SECTION.
2.SPREAD. SPREAD AND APPLY THE REMAINING PRODUCT ALL OVER THE HAIR AND LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 30 MINUTES.

3. RINSE AND DELICATELY CLEANSE

1.RINSE. KEEPING THE GLOVES ON, ADD A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER TO YOUR HAIR AND MASSAGE. THEN RINSE THE COLOUR OUT UNTIL THE WATER RUNS CLEAR.
2.SHAMPOO. REMOVE THE GLOVES, BREAK OFF THE BOTTLE CAP OF THE POST-COLOUR PURPLE SHAMPOO (2) AND APPLY TO YOUR HAIR. MASSAGE UNTIL THE FOAM IS RICH AND DENSE AND THEN RINSE.

4. APPLY NOURISHING MASK

1.APPLY. APPLY A HAZELNUT AMOUNT OF THE NOURISHING MASK (3) TO YOUR HAIR, LEAVE ON FOR 3 MINUTES AND THEN RINSE. KEEP YOUR LIGHTWEIGHT NOURISHING MASK (3) TO USE ONCE A WEEK UNTIL YOUR NEXT COLOUR FOR SOFT, SHINY, LIVELY LOOKING HAIR.

Do not colour your hair if:
• you have a rash on your face or sensitive, irritated and damaged scalp
• you have ever experienced any reaction after colouring your hair
• you have experienced a reaction to a temporary “black henna” tattoo in the past

IGNORING AN ALLERGY CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING.
You must conduct an ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 hours before each time you colour even if you have already used colouring products before. So remember to buy the product 48 hours in advance. (Read and follow the instruction leaflet). In case of any reaction or when in doubt consult a doctor before using any hair colour product. “Developer” contains hydrogen peroxide. “Hair colourant”contains: phenylenediamines, phenylenediamines (toluenediamines), resorcinol, ammonia
• Wear the gloves supplied in the box.
• Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use to dye eyelashes or eyebrows.
• Rinse the eyes immediately and thoroughly if the product comes into contact with them.
• Rinse hair well after application.

Wait at least 2 weeks after using a relaxer, a perm or a straightening process on the hair. Do not use if your hair has been coloured with henna or with a progressive hair colourant. Keep out of reach of children.

I've been using this colour 0.1 for years really great colour. The new formula is awful my hair is orange!!! the smell was stronger and my head was burning which i haven't had since back in the day when I used to bleach my hair, many many years ago. I'm very disappointed

Doesn cover you grey hair. I kept for 45 min, nothing . Also, after good wash, you hair will still smell of amonia. They says there is No amonia in it…, of course it is. You can smell. Not happy at all. Lot of Lies.

New formula, shade is NOT the same!!

Box has changed, and it states new formula, same shade. No it isn't. I've used L'Oreal excellence 7.3 for years, and always been very happy. Why mess with something that had many loyal customers? I've given two stars because if you are using for the first time, you might find this okay. But I am used to a certain result, and this doesn't give it. As a protest I will try a different manufacturers product. Very unhappy customer.

I was really pleased with the results. The colour came out a lovely soft golden blonde. It was easy to apply & gave good coverage. Best I have ever used. My hair was very light blonde but roots were darker & it covered perfectly. Gives a more natural finish than some hair colourants.

I think L'oreal is the best for home hair colour. Leaves the hair in great condition and is gentle on the scalp. However, if like me you are a typical British mousey blonde/light brown with a reddish base colour, colouring at home is a nightmare because even though your hair is fairish, it just won't go blonde, just goes brassy! You can get a blonde colour you're satisfied with eventually but it will take you a lot of experimentation and money, not to mention poor hair condition after all the dye. This was a second attempt at home in 3 months (have short hair and colour was mostly cut out) and done as a strand test which just turned orange, so forget messing about, it's off to the hairdressers for me, even though I only want to go a shade lighter. All those people who went dark or blue/green/grey with L'oreal ash shades must have had pre-coloured/bleached hair as it certainly wasn't the case for me on natural fairish hair. Great colour in general L'oreal, but when is someone going to cater for British mousey blondes who want to go a shade or two lighter without the brass? You'd be on to a winner if you catered for us!

Absolutely awful!!! Do not use this product !! No no no !!! Do not do it ! It ruined my beautiful platinum white hair and now it is a weird purple blue green shade !!! The neutralizer that is in the product is too strong for already platinum blonde hair ... This may work of you are going from a dark shade hair to lighter but not for blondes already ...I dunno just don't use it if your blonde !!! Never ever had a bad experience before but this is a first . Should be removed from the shelves.

I recently bought the platinum blonde L’Oréal 7 shades lighter and it dyed my hair ginger on top and yellow so I googled how to fix it and this colour ash natural blonde kept coming up and it’s amazing it’s got rid of all the ginger and looks perfect now it is a darker blonde than packaging but lovely.

Brought yesterday unfortunately Came out way too dark a strong dark brown close to black tone. Have tried to wash multiple times to remove some of the color but little effect so far. Generally smells OK not too strong, hair was smooth after use of the mask and I love the green undertone as it covers the red orange tones in my hair however comes out way too dark. I think maybe go for a level 6 or 7 if wanting the color on the box. My hair was a brassy medium brown with highlights prior to use. Needed two boxes for my waist length hair.

Formula change worsens previously excellent produc

I have been using loreal exceĺlence for several years, its been wonderful all that time, however the formula has changed, its very thick, dries on the hair very quickly, is not as nice a shade as it was and the colour fades very quickly. Please go back to the previous formula!

I have been using L’Oréal for year cover up grey , I always buy the dark browns but the last two have made my hair horrible brown with a green tinge , it’s horrible you can see the product is greenish after a few minutes

I used 9.1 Natural light ash blonde for the first time. I have naturally dark blonde hair and thought this colour would be ok. After applying the colour my hair went very dark so I only left it on for 30 minutes. I’m not happy with the results. It is dark with a tinge of green.

New formula is awful!

Dear producer I want to point out that the new formula is terrible. The color changes every week and 3 weeks after coloring my hair looks like I haven't colored it in months. I liked the 5.15 but after 2 weeks it turns warm with orange and red bits in my hair. Please reconsider and return the old formula. I don't understand why there was a need to change a hair dye that was great and worked great. I am currently looking for another hair dye because I am completely dissatisfied with the new formula

My colour does not last as long it’s brassy almost ginger and the dye is hard to get out of the bottle . It tends to shoot out in blobs. I’m looking to change to a different brand

Not as vibrant nor last as i hoped for.

I purchased 2 boxes of natural darkest black, to ensure all of my shoulder length was covered... the product is quoted as 'provides a rich and long lasting hair colour performance'... sadly not the case for me. I dyed my hair 2 weeks ago and already the colour has lost vibrancy, my greys have started to show through (yes i know new growth happens) but the greys that were there are showing through which is noticeable against the dark colour.

Dreadful - bring back the old formulation!

I've used Excellence Creme shade 3 for many years. The latest apparently reformulated version is dreadful. It's really difficult to apply, both to get out of the bottle and to work through the hair as it's way too thick in terms of consistency. Coverage appears patchy and inconsistent for the first time ever. I'm reluctant to switch brands but shall be doing so unless the previous formulation is brought back. And nothing on the pack to indicate the formulation is any different.

Why change something that worked???

I have been using this product for over 10 years but the last 5 times I have used it, the colour has not lasted very well and grey hair still shows. Also mixture is now too thick to get out of the nozzle which blocks continuously. Very disappointed that this product has changed for the worse and will now have to find the same colour from a different brand.

This was my go-to dependable box dye that would cover my greys. It doesn't work anymore! I've tried a couple of times thinking that I possibly got a rare dud. Alas, no. It's just not as effective anymore. Bring back the ammonia, I say!

I have recently bought this colour and today just coloured my hair and it left me with very bad texture and smell.I believe the colour is out of date as the consistency looked really off, very thick with a lot of lumps and unable to pass through the small hole of the applicator. I tried to wash my hair 3 times after but the smell is still there, very strong and unpleasant. I am not happy about this product at all.

Have tried to wash multiple times to remove some of the color but little effect so far. Generally smells OK not too strong, hair was smooth after use of the mask and I love the green undertone as it covers the red orange tones in my hair however comes out way too dark. I think maybe go for a level 6 or 7 if wanting the color on the box. My hair was a brassy medium brown with highlights prior to use. Needed two boxes for my waist length hair.

The color changes every week and 3 weeks after coloring my hair looks like I haven't colored it in months. I liked the 5.15 but after 2 weeks it turns warm with orange and red bits in my hair. Please reconsider and return the old formula. I don't understand why there was a need to change a hair dye that was great and worked great. The mixture is thick and hard to apply as it won’t come out of the nozzle freely. The colour is not the same and it does not cover the roots. It has gone very dark and I agree with a lot of comments it has a definite green tinge and at a loss as to what I can do with it other than hope it washes out quickly. It may be new formula but is not the same shade nowhere near. Reluctant to use product again even in another shade. I have grey hair and used excellence for the multi tones it created.

My hairdresser mentioned there was a green tinge to my hair this morning which she'd never noticed before. She suggested trying a warmer colour as my hair was picking up something in the dye. I was checking for a warmer tone today and noticed similar comments on here. I have used no.6 light brown for years and have never had this before. Guessing it's something to do with new formula! Think I'll try other brands as don't want green hair thanks!

I felt the colour was slightly lighter than usual but due to the new formula my main issue was that when the developer and colouring cream when mixed together create a much thicker solution that no longer flows as easily as previously and I ended up having to shake the mixture out of the bottle and apply by hand as it wouldn’t come out through the application nozzle very easily.

The hair dye is now too thick to get out of the bottle properly, it's too thick to mix properly, it's got a lumpy consistency that just doesn't seem to blend and it's green in colour!!!!!! My hair feels like straw after using it!!!!! I've used L'Oréal Excellence for about 30 years now and have never had a problem before. How anybody can think that this 'New and Improved Formula' is fit for purpose is beyond me.

The new formula is absolutely terrible. Too thick to squeeze out of the bottle. It turns a funny green/brown colour on your hair. The colour does not last and it leaves a coating on my hair, that does not wash off . So disappointed with L’Oréal, please revert back to the original formula. Listen to your customers reviews, we all can’t be wrong.

Previously called dark brown it's now called "Brown" and states it's the same colour and result but with a new formula. I've used this product for many years, this new version is very different. So disappointing and so bizarre they changed the name with no explanation and can claim it's the same result. It didn't take fully on my hair, my grey roots were lighter and the colour is dull with a green / pond water brown tinge. Lacking the shine I used to get after using 4 "dark brown". Currently trying new brands to find a perfect replacement. I can only imagine this product is now cheaper to produce or the previous had some bad ingredients that needed removing. Very disappointing.

My roots are still so light to the point they look grey and I feel like I have wasted my time and need to dye again as there is just no depth of colour (which is a grey/green/slight yellow) Just awful. And to add insult to injury, my hair is so dry and brittle after this it's just awful. Do not waste your money. And please don't post a response underneath saying "discuss with customer service" as I already have sent them an email too. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!

This new formula is thick and very lumpy, green like newborn’s poop, and it doesn’t offer as much coverage as before. It’s just ridiculous the price keep going up for a product which quality has decreased so much in the last six months. Purchased recently and noticed that the packaging had changed but said on the box same shade. It definitely is not! I thought that the wrong colour had been put in the box when the dye came out green on my scalp and forehead. Not just a slight greenish colour but a disgusting shade of green! Talk about panic! I now have roots with a noticeable green tinge and will have to re-dye. What a disaster. What is L’Oreal thinking about selling this stuff. No idea how this got by quality control.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jjulie from Terrible colour Earlier this week I bought 3u natural darkest brown x2 as I have long thick hair. It’s turned my hair black/blue and patchy. I have washed my hair 15 times and the colour is still leaking. I’ve been dying my hair for decades and have never experienced anything like this before. I desperately want my hair not to look like this as it’s a mess. I never really write reviews but I’m so disappointed with this product that I feel others should be warned.

Bring back the old stuff I have used this dye for over 10 years, natural dark brown which would look that colour, the new stuff is now just called brown it’s terrible, it leaves a green colour to you head and scalp and also covers your greys green. So gutted as the colour is not what it used to be. I have to go elsewhere and find a new brand. L’Oréal what have you done!

Rated 1 out of 5 by HayDi from AWFUL NEW FORMULA Loreal excellence hair dye 4.02 I want to say how disappointed I am in the new formula of this product. I have been using this number hair dye for a few years. I buy like 10 boxes at a time as I have to dye my hair every 4 to 5 weeks and use 2 boxes as I colour all over it's just easier for me. So i recently coloured my hair with two boxes. The formula is too thick!!! It's hard to get it out the bottle my hand aches from shaking and squeezing it, it leaves a green/yellow tinge on your hair and face now - I thought someone had put the wrong dye in and I was going to turn blonde instead of the usual brunette. Luckily didn't happen but that was not fun causing havoc with my anxiety that first time By having to shake the bottle more hard to get the dye to the comb attachment when it comes to nearing the end of the bottle, some has come out on my bathroom floor lino and stained it. I dyed hair using the new formula packs on 25th July and thought it was a one off. Now only 3.5 weeks later today being 17th august I am dying it again I don't feel like the colour has lasted long at all. As I said I can usually go 4 to 5 weeks and I use the same shampoo etc but this time it has lasted only 3.5 weeks that is disappointing. I am actually so upset about this. I have 8 packs in my cupboard and I am dreading having to use them up whilst this formula is so thick and green/yellow tinged. I am now having to look at another brand. I really am disappointed in this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SPARKINDY from New format is nothing like original Really disappointed- I've always loved this natural dark brown shade 4 - have got the new one just called brown and assured it is the same just different packaging. The root coverage was really bad and had a green tinge to it. Left with a spare box now which I won't use and looking now to alternative brands. Use with caution
