Usage

BEFORE YOU START

REMEMBER TO CONDUCT YOUR ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE. COVER YOUR SHOULDERS WITH A TOWEL AND PUT ON THE GLOVES PROVIDED.

1.PREPARATION

OPEN YOUR COLOURING CREAM BY UNSCREWING THE CAP AND REMOVING THE GREY RING. RESCREW THE CAP TO PIERCE THE TUBE. YOUR COLOURING CREAM (1a) WILL ALREADY BE PIERCED FOLLOWING THE SKIN ALLERGY TEST. POUR IT ENTIRELY INTO THE DEVELOPER (1b). CLOSE THE APPLICATOR TIP AND SHAKE IT TO ACHIEVE A COMPLETELY EVEN MIXTURE. TWIST OFF THE APPLICATOR TIP IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID THE BOTTLE BURSTING. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO USE THE COMB APPLICATOR – IDEAL FOR MID-LENGTH OR STRAIGHT HAIR.

2.COLOUR

OPTION 1 – IF YOU REGULARLY COLOUR YOUR HAIR (EVERY 4-6 WEEKS) AND WANT TO COVER YOUR GREYS OR WANT TO STAY CLOSE TO YOUR CURRENT COLOUR.

1.APPLY. START APPLYING THE MIX AT THE ROOTS OF DRY, UNWASHED HAIR. USE THE BOTTLE TIP TO SEPARATE THE HAIR SECTION BY SECTION.
2.MASSAGE. ONCE THE ROOTS ARE SATURATED, MASSAGE AND LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 20 MINUTES
3.APPLY. NEXT, APPLY THE REMAINING PRODUCT THROUGHOUT THE LENGTHS AND ENDS. LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 10 MINUTES.

OPTION 2 – IF YOU’RE COLOURING YOUR HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR YOUR HAIR HAS NOT BEEN COLOURED IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, OR YOU ARE RADICALLY CHANGING THE COLOUR OF YOUR HAIR.

1.APPLY. START APPLYING THE COLOUR MIXTURE AT THE ROOTS OF DRY, UNWASHED HAIR. USE THE BOTTLE TIP TO SEPARATE THE HAIR SECTION BY SECTION.
2.SPREAD. SPREAD AND APPLY THE REMAINING PRODUCT ALL OVER THE HAIR AND LEAVE TO DEVELOP FOR 30 MINUTES.

3. RINSE AND DELICATELY CLEANSE

1.RINSE. KEEPING THE GLOVES ON, ADD A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER TO YOUR HAIR AND MASSAGE. THEN RINSE THE COLOUR OUT UNTIL THE WATER RUNS CLEAR.
2.SHAMPOO. REMOVE THE GLOVES, BREAK OFF THE BOTTLE CAP OF THE POST-COLOUR PURPLE SHAMPOO (2) AND APPLY TO YOUR HAIR. MASSAGE UNTIL THE FOAM IS RICH AND DENSE AND THEN RINSE.

4. APPLY NOURISHING MASK

1.APPLY. APPLY A HAZELNUT AMOUNT OF THE NOURISHING MASK (3) TO YOUR HAIR, LEAVE ON FOR 3 MINUTES AND THEN RINSE. KEEP YOUR LIGHTWEIGHT NOURISHING MASK (3) TO USE ONCE A WEEK UNTIL YOUR NEXT COLOUR FOR SOFT, SHINY, LIVELY LOOKING HAIR.

Do not colour your hair if:
• you have a rash on your face or sensitive, irritated and damaged scalp
• you have ever experienced any reaction after colouring your hair
• you have experienced a reaction to a temporary “black henna” tattoo in the past

IGNORING AN ALLERGY CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING.
You must conduct an ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 hours before each time you colour even if you have already used colouring products before. So remember to buy the product 48 hours in advance. (Read and follow the instruction leaflet). In case of any reaction or when in doubt consult a doctor before using any hair colour product. “Developer” contains hydrogen peroxide. “Hair colourant”contains: phenylenediamines, phenylenediamines (toluenediamines), resorcinol, ammonia
• Wear the gloves supplied in the box.
• Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use to dye eyelashes or eyebrows.
• Rinse the eyes immediately and thoroughly if the product comes into contact with them.
• Rinse hair well after application.

Wait at least 2 weeks after using a relaxer, a perm or a straightening process on the hair. Do not use if your hair has been coloured with henna or with a progressive hair colourant. Keep out of reach of children.

I was really pleased with the results. The colour came out a lovely soft golden blonde. It was easy to apply & gave good coverage. Best I have ever used. My hair was very light blonde but roots were darker & it covered perfectly. Gives a more natural finish than some hair colourants.

I think L'oreal is the best for home hair colour. Leaves the hair in great condition and is gentle on the scalp. However, if like me you are a typical British mousey blonde/light brown with a reddish base colour, colouring at home is a nightmare because even though your hair is fairish, it just won't go blonde, just goes brassy! You can get a blonde colour you're satisfied with eventually but it will take you a lot of experimentation and money, not to mention poor hair condition after all the dye. This was a second attempt at home in 3 months (have short hair and colour was mostly cut out) and done as a strand test which just turned orange, so forget messing about, it's off to the hairdressers for me, even though I only want to go a shade lighter. All those people who went dark or blue/green/grey with L'oreal ash shades must have had pre-coloured/bleached hair as it certainly wasn't the case for me on natural fairish hair. Great colour in general L'oreal, but when is someone going to cater for British mousey blondes who want to go a shade or two lighter without the brass? You'd be on to a winner if you catered for us!

Beware if your hair is pre-lightened.

Tried this colour this morning because I felt like a change. Absolutely devastated. It's come out a sort of grey/green - yuk! My hair is pre lightened, long and curly. I re-applied my normal colour after but it won't budge. I don't know what to do next and may have to get it cut out - so humiliating. Perhaps this is not suitable for pre-lightened hair.

Ordered this loreal preference 01 lightest blonde the other day. Have used it the new formula & the smell is so strong & it stings so much. Why change a product that worked , Avoid this that is my advice. Now will have to look round for another brand

I used the original dark brown formula for years, and was so happy with it. The new formula is terrible. Greys aren’t fully covered, brassy / green colour, fades after first wash and continues to do so each wash. The colour continues to come out in the water each wash, like a wash in wash out dye. My hair has also become very dry, something I have never suffered with. I decided to give the new product one more try (now called Brown rather than dark brown), leaving on longer as the instructions suggest but again it was a terrible result, grey roots not fully covered so I won’t be using it again. Please write a review if you have found an alternative product / brand as good as the old dark brown excellence product. I’ve tried a few alternatives, not quite happy yet but have found better in ‘Nice And Easy, I wish L’Oreal would bring back the old formula!

Great colour

I’ve been highlighting my hair for years until the charges went up to £90 so my daughter coloured my hair with dark blonde. I was seriously impressed by the all over colour and won’t look back now!

I've used L'Oreal excellence 7.3 for years, and always been very happy. Why mess with something that had many loyal customers? I've given two stars because if you are using for the first time, you might find this okay. But I am used to a certain result, and this doesn't give it. As a protest I will try a different manufacturers product. Very unhappy customer.

The new formula is crap - greys not covered - colour is flat with no variation in tone - so much lighter than it used to be - colour wears off more quickly. Also it doesn't go as far and hasn't covered all. Family and partner have all remarked that it doesn't look anything like or as good as the old formula. Hairdresser even commented it was much lighter than before. To stay it is the same hair colour as before is false. Why fix it if it isn't broke.!!!!!

Generally smells OK not too strong, hair was smooth after use of the mask and I love the green undertone as it covers the red orange tones in my hair however comes out way too dark. I think maybe go for a level 6 or 7 if wanting the color on the box. My hair was a brassy medium brown with highlights prior to use. Needed two boxes for my waist length hair.

After applying the colour my hair went very dark so I only left it on for 30 minutes. I’m not happy with the results. It is dark with a tinge of green.

The color changes every week and 3 weeks after coloring my hair looks like I haven't colored it in months. I liked the 5.15 but after 2 weeks it turns warm with orange and red bits in my hair. Please reconsider and return the old formula. I don't understand why there was a need to change a hair dye that was great and worked great. I am currently looking for another hair dye because I am completely dissatisfied with the new formula

I purchased 2 boxes of natural darkest black, to ensure all of my shoulder length was covered... the product is quoted as 'provides a rich and long lasting hair colour performance'... sadly not the case for me. I dyed my hair 2 weeks ago and already the colour has lost vibrancy, my greys have started to show through (yes i know new growth happens) but the greys that were there are showing through which is noticeable against the dark colour.

It's really difficult to apply, both to get out of the bottle and to work through the hair as it's way too thick in terms of consistency. Coverage appears patchy and inconsistent for the first time ever. I'm reluctant to switch brands but shall be doing so unless the previous formulation is brought back. And nothing on the pack to indicate the formulation is any different.

I have always used L'Oréal to cover my hair's white roots, and it has always brought me good results. This month I bought it as usual and when using it last week I was disappointed because my hair was yellow and didn't cover anything from the whites. The colour chosen was 6 as usual because it is the tone of my hair.

I have been using this product for over 10 years but the last 5 times I have used it, the colour has not lasted very well and grey hair still shows. Also mixture is now too thick to get out of the nozzle which blocks continuously. Very disappointed that this product has changed for the worse and will now have to find the same colour from a different brand.

I tried to wash my hair 3 times after but the smell is still there, very strong and unpleasant. I am not happy about this product at all.

The mixture is thick and hard to apply as it won’t come out of the nozzle freely. The colour is not the same and it does not cover the roots. I will not be purchasing this product again unless it is changed back to the original formula.

It has gone very dark and I agree with a lot of comments it has a definite green tinge and at a loss as to what I can do with it other than hope it washes out quickly. It may be new formula but is not the same shade nowhere near. Reluctant to use product again even in another shade. I have grey hair and used excellence for the multi tones it created.

My hairdresser mentioned there was a green tinge to my hair this morning which she'd never noticed before. She suggested trying a warmer colour as my hair was picking up something in the dye. I was checking for a warmer tone today and noticed similar comments on here. I have used no.6 light brown for years and have never had this before. Guessing it's something to do with new formula! Think I'll try other brands as don't want green hair thanks!

After just a week noticed an odd hue to my roots on my parting, then saw the greys were not covered. I have been using this products for decades and the last two times it hasn't worked. Then I noticed 'New' written on the front of the latest products. Looking on the website it says added hydraulic acid.... well... it DOESN'T work.

I felt the colour was slightly lighter than usual but due to the new formula my main issue was that when the developer and colouring cream when mixed together create a much thicker solution that no longer flows as easily as previously and I ended up having to shake the mixture out of the bottle and apply by hand as it wouldn’t come out through the application nozzle very easily.

It no longer covers the grey in 30 mins - more like 45 mins to an hour. The colour is nowhere near as vibrant and it fades very quickly. The hair dye is now too thick to get out of the bottle properly, it's too thick to mix properly, it's got a lumpy consistency that just doesn't seem to blend and it's green in colour!!!!!! My hair feels like straw after using it!!!!! I've used L'Oréal Excellence for about 30 years now and have never had a problem before. How anybody can think that this 'New and Improved Formula' is fit for purpose is beyond me.

The new formula is absolutely terrible. Too thick to squeeze out of the bottle. It turns a funny green/brown colour on your hair. The colour does not last and it leaves a coating on my hair, that does not wash off . So disappointed with L’Oréal, please revert back to the original formula. Listen to your customers reviews, we all can’t be wrong.

The texture is extra thick, usually one bottle is enough to dye my hair, this time only for the roots was enough. Previously called dark brown it's now called "Brown" and states it's the same colour and result but with a new formula. I've used this product for many years, this new version is very different. So disappointing and so bizarre they changed the name with no explanation and can claim it's the same result. It didn't take fully on my hair, my grey roots were lighter and the colour is dull with a green / pond water brown tinge. Lacking the shine I used to get after using 4 "dark brown". Currently trying new brands to find a perfect replacement. I can only imagine this product is now cheaper to produce or the previous had some bad ingredients that needed removing. Very disappointing.
