How to Apply Permanent Hair Dye
It’s simple! Familiarise yourself by reading the instructions and conduct a patch test 48h before use. Follow these 3 easy steps:
- Use gloves and pour colouring into the developer bottle and shake to mix.
- Apply colour and leave on for the recommended time.
- Rinse out and follow with Shine-Protect Conditioner to help preserve day 1 colour & shine.
For a more detailed guide on how to apply hair dye, follow these instructions:
1.PREPARATION
POUR THE COLOURANT GEL (1) INTO THE DEVELOPER CREAM BOTTLE (2). NEXT, POUR THE SHINE OIL INTO THE DEVELOPER CREAM BOTTLE (2). REPLACE THE APPLICATOR CAP AND MAKE SURE IT IS SECURE. SHAKE THE BOTTLE UNTIL THE MIXTURE IS FULLY COMBINED. ONCE THIS IS COMPLETE, TWIST OFF THE APPLICATOR TIP TO AVOID THE BOTTLE FROM BURSTING.
2.APPLICATION
BEFORE APPLICATION, WET AND TOWEL DRY YOUR HAIR – DO NOT WASH IT.
OPTION 1 – FULL HEAD – FOR HAIR THAT HASN’T BEEN COLOURED IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS.
- APPLY MIXTURE ALL OVER THE HEAD. APPLY THE COLOUR MIXTURE TO YOUR ROOTS AND GREYS FIRST. NEXT, USE THE APPLICATOR TIP TO HELP SEPARATE YOUR HAIR INTO SMALL, EVEN SECTIONS AND APPLY THE MIXTURE ON YOUR LENGTHS AND SPREAD IT ALL OVER YOUR HAIR.

Do not colour your hair if:
• you have a rash on your face or sensitive, irritated and damaged scalp
• you have ever experienced any reaction after colouring your hair
• you have experienced a reaction to a temporary “black henna” tattoo in the past
IGNORING AN ALLERGY CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING.
You must conduct an ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 hours before each time you colour even if you have already used colouring products before. So remember to buy the product 48 hours in advance. (Read and follow the instruction leaflet). In case of any reaction or when in doubt consult a doctor before using any hair colour product. “Developer” contains hydrogen peroxide. “Hair colourant”contains: phenylenediamines, phenylenediamines (toluenediamines), resorcinol, ammonia
• Wear the gloves supplied in the box.
• Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use to dye eyelashes or eyebrows.
• Rinse the eyes immediately and thoroughly if the product comes into contact with them.
• Rinse hair well after application.
Wait at least 2 weeks after using a relaxer, a perm or a straightening process on the hair. Do not use if your hair has been coloured with henna or with a progressive hair colourant. Keep out of reach of children.

Turned my hair green-grey! Lighter blondes looking to return to their natural colour avoid! Solution was incredibly drying on the hair which made it extremely difficult to separate sections for even coverage. DO NOT USE THE BLUE TONING CONDITIONER! It WILL stain your hair. The intended colour is fading from my hair after only 2 days, only grey-green remains.

Does not cover greys

I had to use 2 boxes on my hair which is only chin-length. Despite slathering loads on my roots first, it did not cover the greys and I only had 6 weeks of re-growth. It also did not cover the previous dye I'd used. I tried this brand thinking it would be superior to my usual Garnier Bella colour, but at triple the price, it's terrible. I had a box of new formula with 90ml developer and an original box with only 60ml. One box of 90ml would be enough if only I'd opened that box first. I would never buy this again. The colour is mid brown, not cool blonde. Oh, and wear gloves for the purple toner, it stains!

Hairdresser suggested I use an ash to take the copper out of my blonde. This looked good on the box and put it on last night. Nope! The copper is gone but so is the blonde! It's gone the strangest most unnatural blue grey colour and quite dark too. Hoping it fades out with washing as some reviews have said as I can't afford to fix this mess. Fortunately not too precious about hair but I do have to go to work looking halfway sensible and I'm not sure blue hair works for them!

Doesn't cover greys and isn't the coolest tone

So this colour did not come out dark. But it did not come out cool tonned nore did it cover my greys. I am about 30-40% grey around parting lines and it didn't even touch them. So doubt it would cover anyone with full on grey hair. It smells extremely strong especially when near your face. My eyes would stink from the fumes. It leaves a medium toned light brown. Not the warmest I've tried but definitely not very cool. Its an ok colour and very similar to the box. Even though it says cool on the box the colour it actually comes out is a true reflection on the box. I needed 2 boxes for short hair, would need 3 or more for long hair. Now I need find another permanent colour that actually covers greys.

Great at first. Colour washed out within a week

Exactly as the title says. My hair had been colour stripped and bleached which left a very light ginger/blonde colour. Tried this to tone down the orange and it worked perfectly at first. I was really happy with the ash shade, however, within a week the colour had all washed out and it’s exactly how it was before. Possibly my hairs fault. But still not impressed.

"Cool blonde" it is not...

In what world is this "cool dark blonde"? It's made my hair red, and the toning mask is completely pointless. I swear they've just taken a ginger dye, stuck a "purple toner" in it, and some genius has said "I know, we'll market it as cool blonde!" Guess I'll be embracing the life of a redhead since no toner in the world is going to correct this. Ironically, my hair was naturally dark, cool blonde before the dye, I only intended to blend in a few sparse greys.
If you're going for an ashy, dark blonde, do NOT buy this.
Oh, and the smell is intolerable, I've been walking around smelling like a cross between a hospice and a charity shop stock room for over a week...sigh

Great coverage for brassy orange

I had lightened my hair from mid brown had gone light orange/ ginger. This hairdye has totally sorted it out. left it on for slightly less than the recommended 30 mins (ie 20 minutes) in case it went too dark (all good). The blue leave in conditioner was good too.

Wanted to go from blonde to slightly darker tone without going brown. This seemed the perfect soloution..... while washing it out it looked brown, darker than I liked but brown. Once it's dried though its grey! like dark bluey/grey. For those saying it hasn't covered their greys, I can sympathise as I've now got a full head of them!!
Always see nice colours in this range, but never had one that's come out nice. Not going to buy these products anymore

I’ve been using this for about 6 months but I’ve noticed it only lasts 2/3 weeks at the tone I get when first dyed. I don’t want to recolour every 2/3 weeks. I use the hair mask as recommended. What am I doing wrong?

This colour in particular is one I thought only achievable at a salon. It’s just so perfect for me - I have brown hair and this just lightens it to perfection. Does not look like a box dye at all. I do have stubborn greys which do show through after a few washes but it all look so natural. If you want a blond without any red tones all this is it.

My hair turned brassy and I can’t fix it…

I had the same issue as someone else here who claimed this lightened their hair to make it brassy. Having dark brown hair with some brassy undertones, I thought this would make my hair cool and ashy but it didn’t. instead, I've got reddish brassy tones and to make things worse I've been to several hairdressers who haven't been able to fix it. Several toners have been used on my hair but it doesn't fade. only option is to bleach hair which I really don't want to do, but I am shocked at how this turned out. Will be complaining to L’Oreal too. Such a shame

I've used Preference hair colour for many years as it covers my grey hair really well. I've been using 7.3 Florida for some time but as it fades it has made my hair brassy so I decided to try 7.1 Iceland instead. On the front of the box it says optimal grey coverage so imagine my surprise when after using it my grey roots were still there. I rechecked the description on the box and then in small print on the reverse of the box it says " this shade is not advised if you have a lot of grey" so a total contradiction from the claim on the front. A total waste of money and time!! Do not buy this colour if you have grey hair!

Great colour my hair was orange and bright yellow after bleaching and I tone it but still was more orange tones I used this for 30 minutes as it says on the box it tones all my orange Brassey parts and the purple helped to, it turned dark blonde I love it, if you want to tone your hair from bright orange and yellow after bleaching would recommend

I used the dye on my messed up brown hair I used reckon hair dye and it dried it up badly .
I wasn’t expecting much not even miracles.
My hair went golden blonde with highlights.
Here’s how I dyed it 60 minutes then washed it once with baby shampoo then left the purple toner on for 1 minutes rinsed till water was clear on a hot setting.

Lovely natural colour

I used this in lockdown after not colouring my hair dark brown for over 3 months. I was amazed how well it took. Originally this did not have the blue conditioning treatment and the colour was lovely and lightened slightly over a couple of washes. I've noticed with the blue conditioner it does make it look grey but after a wash with a strong shampoo like vosene it goes back to the lovely cool dark blonde colour. So my advice either skip the blue conditioner and use a normal one or just trust that after 2 washes its the perfect colour with no brassiness at all. I will also say the sun lightens it a lot and my colour has lifted to 8.1 after a week in the sun.

This has literally turned my hair to a grey/blue murky colour! I even did the "try on me" on the L'Oréal website and nothing like it. Out of principle I will never buy their hair dye products again. Will cost me a fortune to get sorted at the hairdressers now.

Banishes orange!

After bleaching my brunette hair, I got the inevitable orange, as expected, and wanted something to get rid of the bright orange, and this was perfect! I am now mid blonde, multi tonal, with not a single hint of orange. Only downsides are the smell, which is a little eye-watering, and it’s pretty thin and messy. Other than that, really impressed - thanks L’Oréal!

I wanted a rich colour to give my dark blonde hair all one colour as my ends were lighter. I also had a small amount of greys to cover which didnt work. I realised that this colour was lighter than my crown colour and I ended up with a more orange tone effect. I will use natural dark blonde in a few weeks to correct it as it looks perfect on the try on app.

I've been a 7.1 for a while but had a build up of a different box colour. I stripped my hair and used the Ombre box kit before using this as a root smudge. It took away the orange from the stripping process and the blue conditioner is good quality. I got afraid when the colour developed quickly and rinsed it off before it had the time to tackle my greys so ordering more. Will defo use this moving forward as my hair is silky in texture now.
If you're trying to go lighter like the previous review and you have dyed hair, try a colour remover first so you can avoid unusual results!

Smells great but..

Having a darker brown hair didn’t expect much change as the box states was hoping a little lightening would be great but wanted a medium brown colour, light brown was the goal but without bleach wouldn’t be an option. My hair has lightened a massive amount and turned ginger and gold, not what I expected and now need to fix as it is not a COOL colour as stated
