How to Apply Permanent Hair Dye
It’s simple! Familiarise yourself by reading the instructions and conduct a patch test 48h before use. Follow these 3 easy steps:
- Use gloves and pour colouring into the developer bottle and shake to mix.
- Apply colour and leave on for the recommended time.
- Rinse out and follow with Shine-Protect Conditioner to help preserve day 1 colour & shine.
For a more detailed guide on how to apply hair dye, follow these instructions:
1.PREPARATION
POUR THE COLOURANT GEL (1) INTO THE DEVELOPER CREAM BOTTLE (2). NEXT, POUR THE SHINE OIL INTO THE DEVELOPER CREAM BOTTLE (2). REPLACE THE APPLICATOR CAP AND MAKE SURE IT IS SECURE. SHAKE THE BOTTLE UNTIL THE MIXTURE IS FULLY COMBINED. ONCE THIS IS COMPLETE, TWIST OFF THE APPLICATOR TIP TO AVOID THE BOTTLE FROM BURSTING.
2.APPLICATION
BEFORE APPLICATION, WET AND TOWEL DRY YOUR HAIR – DO NOT WASH IT.
OPTION 1 – FULL HEAD – FOR HAIR THAT HASN’T BEEN COLOURED IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS.

Do not colour your hair if:
• you have a rash on your face or sensitive, irritated and damaged scalp
• you have ever experienced any reaction after colouring your hair
• you have experienced a reaction to a temporary “black henna” tattoo in the past
IGNORING AN ALLERGY CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING.
You must conduct an ALLERGY ALERT TEST 48 hours before each time you colour even if you have already used colouring products before. So remember to buy the product 48 hours in advance. (Read and follow the instruction leaflet). In case of any reaction or when in doubt consult a doctor before using any hair colour product. “Developer” contains hydrogen peroxide. “Hair colourant”contains: phenylenediamines, phenylenediamines (toluenediamines), resorcinol, ammonia
• Wear the gloves supplied in the box.
• Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use to dye eyelashes or eyebrows.
• Rinse the eyes immediately and thoroughly if the product comes into contact with them.
• Rinse hair well after application.
Wait at least 2 weeks after using a relaxer, a perm or a straightening process on the hair. Do not use if your hair has been coloured with henna or with a progressive hair colourant. Keep out of reach of children.

Light ash blonde.

Put this on my light blonde hair as it was more a platinum white and wanted a cooler more natural blonde . I put a cap on took the cap off after 40 minutes my good I had brown hair , quickly wash it left with a horrible grey brown . Felt like crying it was awful . I have bought a light blonde to lighten it and it’s now looking a bit better . I wouldn’t recommend this at all . In fact all the cool blonde are brown.

I have dyed my hair for 40 years never had an issue. It is always quite a light blonde. I thought I’d have a change and go for a more ashy blonde. It’s turned a horrible dull brown/grey. There seem to be a lot if people having this issue. Maybe L’Oréal should look in to it. It’s like they’ve sent a batch out with the wrong colour.

Made my hair several shades darker. My hair was goldenish blonde with dark blond roots and some grey last dyed 6 months ago. The colour on the box looked fine. I had some concerns when the foam on my skin was brown. It is a bland lifeless greyish brown. My hair looked much brighter before I dyed it

I used L’Oréal preference for long long time in shade Copenhagen , somehow after changing box and formula, oil is in a bottle already colour is 2 shades darker. “Great” job to whoever done it did buy 9.12 as well thinking it’s lighter it migh workand omg what about that burgundy shade

New formulation much darker

I was happy with the old formulation 8.1 branded Copenhagen. The new one on sale is a real disappointment and frustration. The colour is darker, almost more like a light brown than a dark blonde. Ease of use etc is fine but the final colour is annoying. It's marketed with a shorter development time but that really is no help when it doesn't lift as well. Back to the drawing board I will have to try 9.1 and hope it doesn't look brassy.

Wanted to go a bit darker I was a 10-2 put this on then used the toner it has turned my hair blue/grey tried washing out with clarifying shampoo & bicarbonate removed some but not all of it , disappointed is not the word , maybe if I hadn’t used the toner it might be ok but won’t tell til it’s washed out

My hair was yellow/brassy after bleaching and toner or purple shampoo did not work so decided to try a colour instead and opted for a slightly darker ash as was worried a very light ash wouldn't work, quite happy with results and even though it's a strong smell doesn't seem to have causes damage The hair mask makes it feel really soft.

Not like colour on box, but can be fixable

Despite the bad reviews I gave this a go. I had bleached hair and wanted a more ashy look. It came out a weird ashy muddy colour, not good! So I mixed squeezed lemon juice with conditioner and slapped it on and left it for 2 hours. Luckily it worked wonders and all the grey/mud colours had washed out and more or less left me with a colour similar to the picture in the box. Happy with the result….,eventually!

Bought this shade based on negative reviews. It is really ash-grey, exactly what I was looking for. The colour is great and covers grey roots giving them a natural look. It does not match the colour on the box but matches the description. Would recommend to those who are looking for ashy or mousy shade. Absolutely horrendous, made my hair grey just awful. Makes me feel quite depressed 😔. Now a dark, grey sickly colour. Can't wait for it to wash out or till I can dye it again. Will never buy L'Oréal one again, will stick to Garnier.

I foolishly bought this without reading reviews when my usual hair dye was out of stock. My experience is much the same as that of other people. The photos tell the story.
Aftrr using it had to pay for a colour remover (and petrol to pick it up) and another dye and lost most of a precious day in the process.
I am really disappointed by l'Orèal 's lack of response to two emails.I expect better.

Oh dear, NOT the colour on the box! Really disappointed!, Very grey, only hope it washes out, will be using washing up liquid to get rid of colour. Please re-address this LOREAL.

When I started to go grey I bleached my brown hair to an almost white blonde to avoid the increasingly frequent root touch-ups. My hair was still naturally brown at the sides and back, but the grey/white hair was at the top and front, where it was really obvious in my parting and fringe. I kept it icy blonde for around 4 years, and I loved it, but during lockdown my darker roots grew out at the back, so I bleached it myself at home. It worked brilliantly, so next time I did it myself again…and again… yes, I fried my hair. My hairdresser advised me to stop bleaching altogether, so I let it grow out. I looked like a tabby cat, with white hair on top and greyish brown underneath and at the back and sides, with about an inch of bleached ends. When I couldn’t stand it any longer I used the preference Oslo (I forget the number) which sorted the grey, but left the back and underneath quite warm, and after a couple of weeks in Tenerife it went extremely yellow on top. I was aiming for a young Debbie Harry, but ended up more like Boris Johnson. I wanted to move away from the icy blonde anyway, so I tried the 8.1 Copenhagen. It really took the brass away, to the point that after the blue conditioning toner was rinsed out my hair was uniformly battleship grey all over! Looked like it had been painted matte grey, Also the bleached ends turned a sludgy purple grey. Yikes! Luckily as an experienced home bleacher I knew it was the effect of the blue toner, and would wash out. Now, a week later, after washing every day with Argan oil shampoo and good quality conditioner, it’s settled down to a nice ash blonde. More Ash than blonde, and absolutely nothing like the picture on the box, but why they’ve put a picture of honey blonde hair on a box of ash blonde dye is a mystery. The underneath is still a bit warmer than the top, and the bleached ends are still a bit cooler, but it really is hardly noticeable, and after another couple of trims the ends will have been cut off completely. On the whole I’m pleased with it, and I’ll use it again in a couple of months, but I might not use the toning conditioner.

The Best Home Hair Colourant

Great hair colour and true to the colour on the box. I have had a lot of compliments about it from friends. Unlike most home dyes, it doesn't fade. It also covers my grey hair, unlike other cheaper brands of home dye. Well worth paying a few extra pounds for compared with cheaper brands of home hair dyes. For me, it is the best home hair colourant on the market.

I don't usually write reviews, but I'm hoping this will help others who have bleached thier hair at home and have bright yellow hair.
No amount of toning or purple shampoo would help my hair so I decided to buy this for the ashy tone, hoping that it would do anything for the yellow.
I left in on for the max amount of time, and it looked a dark grey colour. I used a regular shampoo after, then the purple mask provided.
My hair has no yellow or brassiness in it, so this helped significantly.
The colour I have now is a pretty ashy( grey in some areas) dull toned blonde.
But I am happy with that because my hair no longer resembles straw.
Definitely recommend for those who've messed up with bleach, but not for anyone looking for an 'icy blonde' as this is not a lustrous colour.

Loved it! Used it last night on my dyed hair that was a horrible gingery dark blonde. I can’t believe how even the colour is. My hair was super patchy from months of attempting to colour at home, my roots had also come through but this has made my hair colour so even, there’s no difference between the roots and the rest of my hair like I’ve had previously when going blonde.
It is darker than the picture but then my hair was a very dark blonde to begin with. However I’m not unhappy about this as it looks super natural.

Not an ash blonde

This colour doesn’t resemble the colour shown on the box. Instead it’s a dull grey tone. I’m hoping it will fade with washing and the blonde will come through. It does leave your hair in nice condition but won’t use again

Generally, the colour that comes out after dying your hair at home, it is not the one after a few washes despite how good your shampoo is. This is the case with this product. After the application, your hair is very ash tone -that I personally love it!- but then, it develops towards an ash blonde. I really like it because I don’t have any orangey tone in my hair for the weeks that I have the product on. My hair changes towards blonder and blonder but not copper and copper. Very happy with it! Even my hairdresser asked me which product I used because I naturally have highlights and she complemented how good the colour is!

Absolutely gorgeous colour

I was a bit skeptical about buying this product after reading the reviews with them being mostly bad, but I decided to risk it after I read it got rid of the yellow/ orange tones in blonde hair which was a struggle for me after bleaching it myself. After using this product I loved the hair colour, it was a lot cooler and looked like a lovely blonde colour, but it is definitely darker than the colour advertised. Will definitely purchase again

I read all the reviews. All of them. 96% of them are bad. But few reviews caught my eyes saying it get rid of warm orangey blonde tones. Every hair dye pulls very warm on me.From roots to middle of my hair. And I usually buy ash,cool blonde shades that shouldn't pull warm. So I ignored all the bad reviews and went ahead and bought it based on those few good reviews. And it did get rid off of my golden/slash orange hair!!! Definitely not the colour that is advertised on the box(but I knew that) but finnaly a true ash colour. And it will lighten up after few washes anyway.
So this review is for all the people who are trying to banish those unwanted warm golden and orange tones. Oh and DON'T use the purple/blue conditioner
