Festival hair: 5 looks to stand out from the crowd

As the weather warms up, so does our anticipation for the fun of festival season. It will come as no surprise that prepping your style (and your wellies) is a major factor in building up to the experience. To us, the make-or-break part of any festival-ready look is the hair style. If you’re summer dreaming and ready to prep your look, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite colour-based festival hairstyles to help amp up your style.

1. The space buns
A classic festival look, the Space Buns are tried and true. The modern update? Adding a little out-of-this-world colour. To create two perfectly balanced top knots, all you need is a comb, four hair elastics, some hair grips, your favourite styling spray and L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup in green or grey

The method
Using the comb, part your hair into two sections from the front of your head to the nape of the neck. Brush your hair to either side so it’s smooth. Then, using hair elastics, secure two ponytails on each side of your head. These will serve as the basis for your buns, so make sure they’re even!

With your ponytails in place, it’s time to add colour. Simply squeeze your desired amount of colour into your hands and run through each ponytail. With a product like this, your look is totally customisable – go for full pony coverage, highlight strands certain strands, or why not make each bun a different intergalactic shade?

With the colour in place, spray your hair with a styling spray and scrunch together to add texture. Then, wrap each ponytail in a swirl and secure the buns with your last two elastics.
2. The side-swept unicorn
This voluminous side ponytail works best with textured hair, or hair that’s dried in braids or a bun. To create it, you’ll need a hair elastic, a comb, hairspray and your favourite L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup.

The method
To create a truly festival-worthy side-swept unicorn, the drama is in the detail. First, consider the palette that helps you channel your inner mythical creature (we like yellow, pink and light blue) and work the colours into your hair, from the underside through to the top.

With your colour ready, part your hair with a deep side parting. Then, give your hair a spritz with your favourite hair spray and tussle to add a bit of volume. Simply secure with a small hair elastic and you’re ready to turn heads!

3. Seaside braids
Is there ever such a thing as too many braids at a festival? We think not. To channel your inner mermaid, you’ll need two hair elastics, a comb, a light styling cream if you’re prone to frizz and L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup in the colours of the ocean.

The method
Seaside braids call for mini braids that are woven into a larger, full-mermaid stunner. To get real sea vibes, we suggest using different shades of blues and greens to create depth. For the smaller braid, we’re feeling green. And for the larger? Three shades of blue.

Begin by creating the mini braid. Section off part of your hair from one temple to behind the ear and add your sea green colour – before working this into a French braid and securing it with a hair elastic.

Then, separate the rest of your hair into three sections, apply your three shades of blue, and French braid from around the other temple. This should be a loose braid so, if hairs fall out, let them frame your face and keep going!

Once you’ve braided down to the nape of your neck, incorporate your smaller braid into the larger one and continue until you’ve reached the end. Secure with a second elastic and you’re festival-ready.

4. The messy tresses
If you’re more of a laid-back festival goer, why not give the messy tresses a try? This look offers just the right balance between chic and ‘just woke up like this’. To create the look, all you need is a texture spray and your favourite L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup.

The method
Simply rough part your hair along your favourite parting. Then, holding the bottle slightly away from your strands, spray on your favourite sea salt or texture spray and scrunch.

Add a pop of signature colour by applying your shade of choice to random strands, then scrunch again. The idea with this look is to keep away from uniform colour or texture. The effortlessness is what really brings this look to life.

5. The rainbow effect
Now, to give your festival look all you’ve got, go for the rainbow effect. Of all our favourite looks that incorporate colour, this one really shows off your creative side. All you need is your favourite shades of L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup and a few hair grips.

The method
This is a pretty freewheeling method. It’s all about the look you want to achieve overall. Choose your favourite 4-5 shades of L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup and apply them in stripes in your favourite rainbow effect. Simply create the pattern you like best, brush through and style to your heart’s content!
