New formula causing irritation to my scalp.

Have been using Casting for years and always happy with the result but the change of formula over past few months is causing my scalp to feel really irritated once I put the dye in my hair it starts getting itchy within a couple of minutes. Unfortunately I will have to stop using it. Please L’Oréal bring back the old formula.

The new formulation is awful! It’s thinner than the original version and drips everywhere during application. I bought 513, which looks medium/dark brown on the box, but which has turned my hair a horrible harsh black. I used to really like this product but won’t be buying any more!

I have been using this colour and brand for years. They changed the formulation and instructions and it's now AWFUL. The patch test leaves a stain on your arm, the formulation drips more and dyes everything, and the colour isn't as good. Now I'm on the hunt for a new dye.

I regularly colour my hair to cover up my unsightly white hairs. Casting Creme Gloss has coloured my hair beautifully giving me evenly coloured glossy hair. My natural hair colour is dark chocolate colour- so that’s the colour I picked. However when dying my hair I left the colour on for too long and the colour appeared blacker than dark chocolate. The conditioner that comes with the colour is lovely, nice and thick and great smelling! The only downside is I have long hair and I had to purchase another box of hair dye to ensure even colouring throughout my hair and the smell of the chemicals is about for a couple of days. The packaging is really nice as well. Other than that, it’s ok but I would not purchase this dye again – maybe another colour…

The hair salon coloured my hair more a mahogany and the colour disappeared fast. I knew I wanted chocolate brown casting crème gloss as I had used this a while back. It covered all my short hair, and the beautiful crème conditioner lasted ages because there was a fair bit in the small tube. The colour is to die for, brings out bp natural strands. So far had this on my hair which is virtually my natural hair colour for six weeks, and still doesn’t need to be done agin. So soft, and super shiny, I recommend 100% and beats paying the salons £90+ on fashion colours which come out quickly, ie two washes !

Dye didnt stick to hair and made hair patchy all dyes i have used in the past havent done this so wont be using this brand again. Must of changed their formula as never used to have issues using this brand

I walked into boots and this product immediately jumped out at me. I’d been wanting to dye my hair for ages and this seemed like the perfect opportunity, so of course I had to purchase it. A week later I tried it on my hair. I had performed multiple tests on strands of hair and the colour was exactly like the box. I was ecstatic to try it! I coated my hair in it, following the instructions perfectly. I went to wash it out and immediately looked in the mirror in absolute horror. The colour was not dark brown like the box suggested. IT WAS BLACK!!! I am now stuck with dark hair and I’m embarrassed to go in public. This hair dye has wrecked my confidence, destroyed my hair and ruined my life for the next two months. SAVE YOURSELVES. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT

Turned my brown hair jet black and after months of trying different clarifying shampoos it is still just as black. Not even the tiniest hint of colour comes out when I wash it. I am now having to resort to having my hair cut monthly in the hope that eventually all the colour will be cut out...not a good outcome when my once long hair is now shoulder length. Even a professional hair dye remover at the hairdressers didn’t remove it.

My hair was chestnut brown. I used one of these it gradually sent my hair jet black and my root regrowth a purpleish red AVOID AT ALL COSTS MY HAIR FEELS SO CORSE AFTER USING THIS and I only LEFT IT IN FOR 15 MINUTES

I dyed my hair today in preparation for going on holiday in 2 days and the colours is completely different. It is a really dark, almost black colour and I look awful. I have washed it 3 times today to try and tone it down but it's not changing. It always used to look natural but just looks like a bad dye job. I'm so upset that it will look so awful on holiday.

It's not washing out, it just gets more orange with each wash. Bring back the old formula please. It was a great product. The new formula is terrible and I won't risk using it again.

Got confused looking for medium brown now though as it is now called 500 Light Brown. Be careful as it is not , it is medium brown. Their new conditioner does not work for my hair. It left it frizzy and hard to style. The previous honey conditioner was so much better. I wish they had left the previous hair dye alone .

I knew I wanted chocolate brown casting crème gloss as I had used this a while back. It covered all my short hair, and the beautiful crème conditioner lasted ages because there was a fair bit in the small tube. The colour is to die for, brings out bp natural strands. So far had this on my hair which is virtually my natural hair colour for six weeks, and still doesn’t need to be done agin. So soft, and super shiny, I recommend 100% and beats paying the salons £90+ on fashion colours which come out quickly, ie two washes !

I’d been wanting to dye my hair for ages and this seemed like the perfect opportunity, so of course I had to purchase it. A week later I tried it on my hair. I had performed multiple tests on strands of hair and the colour was exactly like the box. I was ecstatic to try it! I coated my hair in it, following the instructions perfectly. I went to wash it out and immediately looked in the mirror in absolute horror. The colour was not dark brown like the box suggested. IT WAS BLACK!!! I am now stuck with dark hair and I’m embarrassed to go in public. This hair dye has wrecked my confidence, destroyed my hair and ruined my life for the next two months. SAVE YOURSELVES. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT

Not even the tiniest hint of colour comes out when I wash it. I am now having to resort to having my hair cut monthly in the hope that eventually all the colour will be cut out...not a good outcome when my once long hair is now shoulder length. Even a professional hair dye remover at the hairdressers didn’t remove it.

It does come out darker than the box colour, but I wanted my hair dark again so I am happy with it. I would say go a shade lighter if you really don't want a dark colour. It does fade slightly with every wash, but after 2 and half months the colour was still looking nice and not too brassy as I used to cover old balayage. Use - Easy to use, gloves are a bit tight and one pair ripped. I needed to use two boxes for full coverage, but my hair is fairly long and quite thick. Grey coverage- not great, if you are looking to cover a substantial amount of grey hair I would avoid this product. My greys are slightly less obvious but still visible. Overall I am happy with how the colour turned out and I have used it twice now. It is very easy to work with and left my hair feeling and looking good.

It's easy to use, pretty good coverage, and leaves your hair feeling really soft and looking really shiny. I am allergic to lots of things and most hair dye stains my pale skin terribly (always shocks the hairdressers). I am neither allergic to this, nor do I get terrible stained skin. I've seen the bad reviews....not sure why you would complain that a brown hair dye has turned your hair brown. It kind of says it on the box. If you have dark brown hair and want to keep the grey at bay, I think this is a pretty good choice.

However, I’m really pleased with the product, easy instructions to follow and the result is pretty much the same colour I get at my hair salon anyway! It’s a really nice, rich dark brown and as someone with naturally dark brown hair, it gave my hair a really nice shine and tint. It also lightens after a couple of washes so don’t worry if it originally looks super dark!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Josianna from Lovely rich tones I was apprehensive to use this dye at first because I had grown out roots and previously bleach blonde hair so I was worried I wouldn't achieve an even coverage. I was pleased to find the dye was easy to apply and created barely any mess. And the colour was gorgeously rich and coverage was amazingly even, still even after several washes. My hair felt thick and moisturised and much better than anything I had experienced in a salon. The price is also very good, the only thing I am sad about is the fact it is only semi permenant as I would love to keep this colour for longer.

At the time I had dark blonde hair with horrible white blonde highlights so i thought this would blend them together more. The product itself did not feel stingy or irritable at all and the process was fairly easy. However, i was expecting a honey blonde colour and instead my hair is now... Ginger. Then again, it did give my hair a glossy look and the colour is quite lovely. If you buy this product i recommend doing a testing patch. If ginger is not your thing i would try something else.

I bought it in chocolate truffle and the colour at first was lovely very rich and glossy (a little darker than the box but then it always is until the first wash). However, unfortunately after just over 2 weeks (8 washes) the colour has disappeared and has washed out completely. I use standard L'Oreal shampoo for reference. A real shame as it's just not feasible to re-colour every fortnight.

Hair feels soft and the smell was nice too. Very pleased.

These dyes have always left my hair silky soft and shiny after using. However, 600 Light Brown was a terrible colour that I would not recommend! My hair had not been dyed for a few months and was therefore my natural mousy brown/light blonde. 600 Light Brown has no depth of colour and has a rather blonde base. My hair does not look very different aside from looking more blonde! Not what I wanted! I am quite sure I have used this colour previously and therefore think L'Oreal may have changed the formula again. Conditioner also seems to be different.

The pack contained 1 tube of cream colourant, 1 bottle of developer cream, 60ml of shine enhancing conditioner with royal jelly and 1 pair of gloves. I got my sister to dye my hair for me, she promptly imformed me that I now had 3 grey hairs at the back of head instead of the one! Oh the joys! I suffer from eczema so the fact that this product is ammonia free is a bonus, as it didn't burn or irratate my scalp! My hair is black so in all fairness most products dont tend to change the colour of my hair they might just add a tint. I previously had red in my hair which was very faint, the Casting Crème Gloss has completely covered this colour, so my hair is now all one colour now which is good! I was also very impressed that it has completely covered my greys they are not lighter than the rest of my hair so a good cover all round for grey hairs. I do have very long hair so did find that the amount of dye wasnt enough to fully cover the tips of my hair. The packaging is nice, the applicator is easy to use. There is a lot of conditioner which is a good thing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Firstly a big thanks to L'Oreal Paris for giving me Casting Creme Gloss to try for free! I chose the Dark Chocolate shade. The packaging was very bold and eye catching because of the pink colouring. The shade looked fantastic on the box. I found the instructions really easy to follow and thanks to the nozzle the dye was very easy to apply. Usually I use 2 boxes of dye to colour my hair but with casting creme gloss, 1 was enough. The smell wasn't over powering and was surprisingly pleasant. It rinsed out of my hair really easily. I love the fact that you get plenty of conditioner so there is enough for at least one more wash afterwards. After drying my hair I found the condition had improved, my hair was shiny, soft and the colour was even and matched the colour on the box! Since dying my hair I have washed it 12 times and the colour is still as strong as it was when I first dyed it. The only downside I see to this product is the colour leakage when you wash your hair, it turns the bath water a dirty brown colour. Overall I'd give this product ðððð, I would definitely use it again and will be recommending this to friends and family!

Well I have to say l'oreal have done it again. I tried l'oreal casting creme gloss 323 dark chocolate for free from l'oreal, the colour turned out great exactly as I wanted, not only that but it did actually cover the wisdom hairs and my hair felt moisturised. The Royal jelly after conditioner smelled amazing and really softened my hair even more. Overall I'd say its a thumbs up for l'oreal.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a fairly young woman (32) I really don't want to be walking around with grey hair. I know some people are ok with it, but I am not. call me shallow if you like, but the grey hair has to be covered! I've been disabled since I was 19 years old and using a walking stick makes me feel old enough so the grey hair is just one more thing I don't need. So I've been dying my hair to cover the grey since I first spotted the little blighter's a week after my wedding (coincidence?!) aged 24. My health took a down turn early last year and I was unable to dye my hair since, so When the chance to test L'oreal casting creme gloss came up I jumped at the opportunity. over a years worth of grey growth was seriously denting my image! lol my Mum is a L'oreal hair dye user and recommends it, but I had never tried it before, always sticking to the bright colours of brands like Schwarzkopf Live colour XXL, or the newer Vidal Sassoon range. I received a colour very close to my natural colour, a nice dark chocolate tone. Usually my husband is drafted in to help me colour my hair (against his will) but this time I thought I'd do it myself as the box suggested it should be simple even for hair colour beginners. I found mixing the product for use very easy, the box has a little cut out on the side which is the right size and shape to stand the bottle in to keep it upright and steady. There are only two things to mix together and you basically just stand one bottle in the box and squeeze the other into it, then put the lid back on and shake it. even I managed that without a problem. next you just snap the tip off of the bottle lid (much easier than it sounds) and this results in a nice application tip. I found it a little strange to apply the product to wet hair, as my usual products go onto dry hair, but the process was much the same, you just apply the mix straight from the bottle onto the hair starting at the roots and massage it in all the way to the tips, using up the whole mixture. Then you just wait. for me this just involves sitting in a comfy chair in my bathroom, trying not to stain anything. I dare not leave the bathroom as I have a lot of pets and I wouldn't want them to get dye on them. trying not to stain anything was much easier than usual, as this product is a little thicker than others I have used and does not drip as much. Waiting was ok, there were no strong odours to deal with as the formula is ammonia free. The instructions said to wait 20 minutes, but I have quite course hair so chose to wait an extra five. After that its the same routine as all other hair dyes, you just rinse for what feels like an eternity. keep rinsing until the water runs clear. then use the conditioner that came in the box, rinse again and you're done. I liked the conditioner, it smells nice and feels silky. my hair felt soft and relaxed afterwards, not like it had been through a chemical treatment at all. I blow dried my hair and was happy with the texture and feel of my hair. it felt silky and manageable. full of body and looked shiny and healthy too. but when I got to the mirror for a proper look I was very disappointed to see that the dye had not covered my grey hairs at all. I know I paid particular attention to those areas during the application process and yet it seems like the dye had no impact whatsoever. so overall, I can not recommend this product as a hair colourant to cover grey hairs. I wish I could as my hair did feel great after using it, but for me the whole point was covering the grey and thats the one thing it just didnt do. Its a great conditioning treatment and may well be a good hair colour treatment for people without grey hair, but if you are looking to cover greys, get something else. anything else.

I had tried L'Oreal Paris casting creme gloss before in another colour but the dark chocolate brown is absolutly stunning. My hair was dull and lifeless before using and I had 1 or 2 little greys popping through but it covered them completley and lifted my colour and with it my confidence!. My hair looks so bright and glossy in this rich chocolate brown colour. It made my hair feel silky soft and strong too not like some other box dyes that make your hair feel strawy. This is a salon quality box dye without the price tag and I will be using it from now on I absolutly love it!!

Lol I was excited to open my hair colour from L'Oreal Paris the box look a fab design and was eager to try. Opening and looking at the instructions i thought that will be easy to do and was very happy to see straight away there was 50% more conditioner. Nice long tip on the bottle which i can say made it easier to get the roots of my hair, instructions were clear and easy to follow and the results were fab loved the colour (dark chocolate) and the shine the only thing wrong was it only lasts upto 28 washes. So my first outing and my sister was amazed at how my hair shined and she loved the colour, telling her how easy it was to do and that i got it FREE from L'Oreal Paris to try was a bonus. So off she went to see if she could get a colour close to her previous colours to try for herself. Even at the school and nursery the amount of compliments i received and when i told them it was FREE from L'Oreal Paris to try they thought was fab and i had one lady go straight to buy it and did it as soon as test patch was fine in black. L'Oreal paris casting crÃ¨me gloss is fab only down side it isn't permanent!

The conditioner was bigger than the usual ones in dye boxes and having long dry hair I often feel like my hair could do with more of the nourishing treatments. So kudos to LâOreal for that. First up the usual question: What will it smell like? I was pleasantly surprised with this one, and there wasnât a strong smell like some dyes can produce (cue complaints from partners or flatmates). In fact it was actually a nice light perfumed scent, so bonus points there too. The applicator was a good size, easy to handle and not overtly large in my small hands. Oh I almost forgot to mention the gloves.. What about the gloves? These ones were a new type for me to use, as they were a thin textured type that were easy to open up (some have static cling) and just felt of a higher quality than my normal box dyes. These ones were strong and didnât leak, the wrists were shaped so no extra water got into the gloves whilst rinsing. Also as stated above, I have ridiculously small hands apparently and most gloves are like comedy ones which fall off but these were a really good fit for me. In fact these were the only pair of gloves that have lasted the whole dying session for me so Iâm happy not to have the usual stained fingertips. Ok, back to the actual dye: did it drip? What was the consistency like? It is a gel like thickness. If anyone crafts then you might understand what I mean by the comparison: it is similar to liquid pearls. I would be lying if I said it didnât have a few drips, however I will mention that I am also apparently more messy than any other female when dying hair, so you might not want to take too much notice.However the drips did clean up better than expected and my ears are not a different colour so this is a good thing. I was a little worried in the waiting stage as I feared for my grey roots becoming ginger ones (no offence to anyone ginger, I just thought roots only would look odd). Also in the waiting stage there were no drips and no itchy scalp or irritated eyes like some dyes can produce Yes but did look good after? Well yes â¦ I think, It does seem to depend which light and angle it gets looked at and I think next time I would opt for a darker colour. However it does look much better, and bear in mind that my colour was already a mismatched bodge job so it did well. Does it feel better? Yes definitely, my hair feels soft and smooth and also smells good too. There is a much better shine on it now and the extra conditioner made a big difference for me to be able to cover all of my hair generously and still have some left for the next wash. Would you recommend this product? Yes I would! Personally I would try out another shade for myself, however I would try LâOreal again and was pleased with the process and result.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am an active home hair dyer of my hair and have been for many years, i generally go for the brown colours as my natural colour is brown and i feel it gives it a nice, healthy refreshing look after colouring. For my free Casting Creme Gloss from L'Oreal Paris, I chose the Dark Chocolate 323 colour from their Casting Creme Gloss collection. I followed the instructions, which are clear and concise, which makes them very easy to follow. Some hair dyes can be confusing but this was easily understood. The packaging is favourable and easily stands out amongst other dyes with its looks. I am attracted by the look of products, even if this doesn't have anything to do with the product itself, but i am easily attracted to appealing packaging. The shape of the packaging & the colours with the shiny tones adds to this affect. The hair dye was easy to apply and i could do it myself (i usually get someone else to do it for me), the smell wasn't too overpowering and the product went into my hair really well, it wast too thick or too runny. Leaving the product on my hair for 20 minutes was effortless as the product didn't feel heavy and the smell wasn't too strong. While rinsing my hair the smell wasn't too strong either. The conditioner in this pack is amazing!! This needs to be available in full size bottles to buy because i would purchase bucket loads of the stuff! Its incredible! It left my hair extremely soft and shiny, which i find very difficult to get from most products on the high street. My hair was so easy to brush after i had washed and conditioned and it smelt so good. The colour had gone onto my hair very well, with an obvious difference to my previous hair, it looked healthy, shiny and rich in the chocolate brown tone. I am incredibly happy with the outcome and love the look and feel of my hair after using this product! I would defiantly recommend this product and i will certainly be using it again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a person with really thick hair, I am always skeptical about hair dye - there never seems to be enough in the bottle, meaning that I usually have to buy to packs to do my hair. Which is good for the company's profits, but not my bank! Nonetheless, when I received my own box of Casting Creme Gloss from L'Oreal Paris to try for free, I was excited! When I opened the box, I pulled out the bottles and gave them a little shake to try and 'feel' how much was in there, and I was quite surprised as there seemed to be a lot; more than what you would usually get. Perhaps this time one bottle would cover all of my hair, yay! So, after mixing everything together as per the instructions, it came to the application part of this process. Unfortunately the gloves seemed a little small, and my hands are rather tiny to begin with, but I got those on. As promised, the dye had no ammonia, and you could tell this by the lack of that scent that accompanies that particular chemical. The dye mixed in easily into my thick hair, AND there was indeed enough for all of it with just the one bottle! Yes! After waiting the necessary time, the excess dye washed out of my hair quickly and easily, and I was left with a lovely new, darker shade of hair.

This is a product I would definitely use again. My hair has a lovely shine and looks super healthy. The only thing I would change is it was a bit thin, maybe make the creme a little thicker but other than that superb. 9/10

Rated 5 out of 5 by chroniccrochet from Lush brown warmth [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried out the Dark Chocolate Casting CrÃ¨me Gloss that I got for free and I'm happy how it turned out. I already have black hair and I haven't dyed it so was a bit nervous to try it. Well it was so easy to mix and apply. I sectioned my hair and used hair bobbles to work on one section at a time. It was twenty minutes and washing it out was incredibly easy and I wasn't at the tub for ages waiting for the water to turn clear. I didn't notice a huge difference while it was wet. When I dried and styled it I was very pleased!! It added a warm depth to my hair. You can especially see in the sun how it now has a wonderful shimmer. It wasn't extremely noticeable but that's what I wanted and it is perfect. Oh and it has a lot of conditioner!!!

The colour I chose was "dark chocolate" which turned out a really lovely colour on my hair but was a little bit darker than I had expected from the colour chart on the side of the box. The product was easy to apply as it came with gloves and a special nozzle on the bottle. The colour came out even and also left a nice shine on my hair. The instructions were easy to understand. I'd definitely use this product again and I'd recommend it to a friend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kamila152 from Darker colour but overall good product I used this in the shade 600 which is light brown, the colour came out a few shades darker at first but after washing it, it did become a bit lighter. My hair was also a bit dry at first but that did pass fairly quickly after washing and conditioning a couple of times. I don't think the colour does match what's said on the box completely and a couple of people have also said they found the colour to look darker than they thought it would but overall I am pleased with how it looks, i didn't find the darker colour to be an issue i really like it. Overall I would recommend buying a shade lighter than what you would like but I think it is a good dye and I was very pleased with how the colour turned out.

This is a semi-permanent and should last for 28 washes. Prior to trying this I hadn't dyed my hair for over 6 months and I had quite a lot of grey throughout my hair and a grey streak at the front underneath the top section of my hair. Because of this I was intrigued to see how well the dye would cover my grey. I also have quite thick hair too so was concerned as to how well the dye would cover my hair (would there be enough of it?) The colour I chose was Dark Chocolate - it looked like a lovely rich colour on the box so I hoped that translated to my hair too. I wasn't disappointed, I loved the colour - darker than my original colour and has pretty much covered most of my greys - some look like a slightly different shade of brown to the rest but I like that. My hair looks lovely and shiny and I've had quite a few compliments since colouring it. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the process was really easy - add a tube of dye to a bottle of liquid, wet your hair, apply the dye and leave for 20 minutes. I thought that this was a pretty short amount of time and perfect when you don't have a lot of time. The one thing I will say is that the gloves are terrible! They were far too small for my hands (I normally take medium gloves), they had no stretch and I managed to rip them while putting them on. Everything else was fine though. There was plenty of dye even though my hair is pretty thick and it covered really well. It doesn't smell either which is a bonus! The conditioner smelled lovely and there was enough for two washes which was great. My hair felt lovely and soft once dry and was really shiny too. The packaging claims the colour will cover 70% of greys. I found that it's pretty much covered all of mine- perhaps a stray one in places but nothing noticeable. Overall I found this easy to use and I'd buy it again. The Dark Chocolate shade turned out lovely and has a nice shimmer to it. I dyed it about 2 weeks ago and it still looks fab! :-)

My hair was left feeling super soft and the colour is just amazing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i received a free trial from l'oreal paris to try and for the chocolate brown casting creme gloss, the hair dye itself is excellent.... easy to use and got i the colour i wanted, the reason for the 4 stars is because of the after treatment that came with it and the gloves being so tiny... the after treatment left my hair feeling all greasy and hard to brush through (which my hair is never like this and i have thick hair!! Never had this problem after any dying or after treatments)... love the hair dye and the colours though all round thats a winner

Due to me having naturally dark hair I knew it wouldn't do much for me so I enlisted the help of my younger sister who has very mousy brown hair. We found this product to be WONDERFUL! Due to the length of our hair, my sister and I find that we usually need 2 bottles of dye to cover our hair evenly, but not with this one. There was plenty of dye in the bottle to cover all of my sisters hair evenly and we found in the end there was still some in the bottle. This dye was runnier then our usual hair dye but I feel this was a bonus as it allowed from me to do my sisters roots properly with out rushing and wondering if there would be enough for the rest of her hair. The fact that there is no ammonia in this dye was a huge bonus as well as we avoided getting headaches from the smell of the strong chemicals. The outcome was delightful, my sisters hair looked like had got it done professionally in hairdressers. The colour was deep and rich, like melted chocolate, and had a beautiful shine. In the end my sister and I decided that this product is WONDERFUL! The high light for me was the absolute joy on my sisters face at the results therefore, not only will we be using this product again, I will recommend this product.

Usually hair dyes dont come with enough dye to do my whole head so I'm really happy that, this is something I would want to know before I got the product.
