New formula causing irritation to my scalp.

Have been using Casting for years and always happy with the result but the change of formula over past few months is causing my scalp to feel really irritated once I put the dye in my hair it starts getting itchy within a couple of minutes. Unfortunately I will have to stop using it. Please L’Oréal bring back the old formula.

The new formulation is awful! It’s thinner than the original version and drips everywhere during application. I bought 513, which looks medium/dark brown on the box, but which has turned my hair a horrible harsh black. I used to really like this product but won’t be buying any more!

Used Castings light iced blonde for over five years. The new formula smelt strong, irritated my scalp and I nearly fainted with the smell. It reminded me of using a powerful bleach like I used to. I’m devastated. Sorry, but I need the old formula, I am honestly lost without the old version.

My hair was accidently dyed way too blonde from another brand, I wanted to removed all orange and brassy tones and chose this as it had frost tones in it. It made my hair soft and after two applications my hair was a beautiful blonde colour with no orange!!

I am a natural medium blond with some higlights (done long ago by a hair styilst and some by the summer sun). I read that this product is suitable for highlighted hair in order to tone down the yellow colour. It turned ASHY GREY on my hair, not the whitish glossy colour of the package but just plain grey. I looked 20 years older, just like my granny. It was not shiny but dull and unattractive. I masked it with a semi-permanent colour on top that will eventually go away and after that I'll try fo go back to my natural hair. So disappointed!

Been using this hair dye for years and have always been really happy. Got confused looking for medium brown now though as it is now called 500 Light Brown. Be careful as it is not , it is medium brown. Their new conditioner does not work for my hair. It left it frizzy and hard to style. The previous honey conditioner was so much better. I wish they had left the previous hair dye alone .

I've been using this hair colour for maybe 10 years and realised I need to post a review. To clarify: L'Oreal Casting 1010 PERMANENTLY lightens hair. If you closely at the packet for nearly all the other colours of Casting, you'll see that underneath the large pink box, it says 'Lasts up to 28 shampoos'. On the 1010 packet, it doesn't say this and it says on the side of the box that it 'lightens hair'. So what happens with 1010 is that it lifts your natural colour (bleaches it) by several shades, and adds blonde tones all over. What is permanent is the lightening, what is semi-permanent is the added colour. What will happens it that the initial colour will fade and you'll be left with lightened roots that will need retouching. Which is easy - you just buy 1010 again and follow the instructions for previously coloured hair. Having used this product so many times, I'm a big fan but it should be made clearer that the lightening effect is permanent. Hope that helps anyone trying to decide which colour to buy!

I bought the 1010 iced blonde one, and it did not look good on my hair at all (I have dark blonde hair with highlights). My question is if this is gonna wash out after 28 washes or if it is just on the other colours this count?

I've been using Casting for many years I always went for the Light Brown 600 (love the colour), and once I tried the Iced Mocha (wasn't for me). First time I've tried the Caramel shade 780 as it was time to go lighter due to having more greys. I usually leave the dye on for 25-30 mins to ensure that all the greys are covered. As it was a new colour I wanted to be on the safe side & left the dye on for 20 mins. I was delighted with the shade, it's a lighter brown with a warm tone, the odd grey hair can be spotted if you look too close but it's only because I know that I didn't allow the dye to work longer. Apart from that I'm very happy with the result, many people have complemented the colour. Couple of things to mention- Loreal has changed the models on the packaging but I feel it doesn't give the colour justice, I prefer the previous one. The conditioner isn't very good I use my own. Still give it 5 stars and highly recommend this shade.

I dyed my hair today in preparation for going on holiday in 2 days and the colours is completely different. It is a really dark, almost black colour and I look awful. I have washed it 3 times today to try and tone it down but it's not changing. It always used to look natural but just looks like a bad dye job. I'm so upset that it will look so awful on holiday.

It's not washing out, it just gets more orange with each wash. Bring back the old formula please. It was a great product. The new formula is terrible and I won't risk using it again.

Got confused looking for medium brown now though as it is now called 500 Light Brown. Be careful as it is not , it is medium brown. Their new conditioner does not work for my hair. It left it frizzy and hard to style. The previous honey conditioner was so much better. I wish they had left the previous hair dye alone .

To clarify: L'Oreal Casting 1010 PERMANENTLY lightens hair. If you closely at the packet for nearly all the other colours of Casting, you'll see that underneath the large pink box, it says 'Lasts up to 28 shampoos'. On the 1010 packet, it doesn't say this and it says on the side of the box that it 'lightens hair'. So what happens with 1010 is that it lifts your natural colour (bleaches it) by several shades, and adds blonde tones all over. What is permanent is the lightening, what is semi-permanent is the added colour. What will happens it that the initial colour will fade and you'll be left with lightened roots that will need retouching. Which is easy - you just buy 1010 again and follow the instructions for previously coloured hair. Having used this product so many times, I'm a big fan but it should be made clearer that the lightening effect is permanent. Hope that helps anyone trying to decide which colour to buy!

It does come out darker than the box colour, but I wanted my hair dark again so I am happy with it. I would say go a shade lighter if you really don't want a dark colour. It does fade slightly with every wash, but after 2 and half months the colour was still looking nice and not too brassy as I used to cover old balayage. Use - Easy to use, gloves are a bit tight and one pair ripped. I needed to use two boxes for full coverage, but my hair is fairly long and quite thick. Grey coverage- not great, if you are looking to cover a substantial amount of grey hair I would avoid this product. My greys are slightly less obvious but still visible. Overall I am happy with how the colour turned out and I have used it twice now. It is very easy to work with and left my hair feeling and looking good.

It's easy to use, pretty good coverage, and leaves your hair feeling really soft and looking really shiny. I am allergic to lots of things and most hair dye stains my pale skin terribly (always shocks the hairdressers). I am neither allergic to this, nor do I get terrible stained skin. I've seen the bad reviews....not sure why you would complain that a brown hair dye has turned your hair brown. It kind of says it on the box. If you have dark brown hair and want to keep the grey at bay, I think this is a pretty good choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by capricorn from Casting is my choice I've been using Casting for many years I always went for the Light Brown 600 (love the colour), and once I tried the Iced Mocha (wasn't for me). First time I've tried the Caramel shade 780 as it was time to go lighter due to having more greys. I usually leave the dye on for 25-30 mins to ensure that all the greys are covered. As it was a new colour I wanted to be on the safe side & left the dye on for 20 mins. I was delighted with the shade, it's a lighter brown with a warm tone, the odd grey hair can be spotted if you look too close but it's only because I know that I didn't allow the dye to work longer. Apart from that I'm very happy with the result, many people have complemented the colour. Couple of things to mention- Loreal has changed the models on the packaging but I feel it doesn't give the colour justice, I prefer the previous one. The conditioner isn't very good I use my own. Still give it 5 stars and highly recommend this shade.

My hair was a light brown with darker natural routes and uneven sun bleached highlights. I haven't died it in a year when I got balayage. Using 780 Caramel Moccaccino Blonde for 20 minutes, it's now a shiny medium to dark chestnut chocolate brown with even colour. Perfect for autumn and just what I was looking for. Cannot comment on how long the colour lasts but it's meant to start fading after 28 washes. Blonde spectrum shades like this are great if you are looking for a brunette colour without it turning black as this is something I do not want. My hair is thick and is very long, reaching the bottom of my waist and I used one full bottle and a 1/4 of a second for touch ups so these go a long way. I'd get two just to be safe!!!

Ever since the change in packaging the colours either look extremely brassy and unnatural or very dull, grey and dingy. They also leave my hair in very bad condition now snd they barely cover the few greys I have. Always wash out to a nasty ginger colour whatever shade I use! In my opinion the formula has been cheapened considerably and I won’t be purchasing again.

The most recent packaging for this colour does not state 28 washes unlike previous versions of this colour and other colours in the range. I bought this based on the Boots website saying it was semi-permanent. This is not true, 6 weeks later my hair is more or less the same colour as when I dyed it and I now have roots. I am naturally dark blonde and it turned my hair ginger. I would not recommend this shade if you want a semi-permanent colour.

All the brown colours in this range either turn pinky/purple or black. I am usually good with home colouring and usually I use these colours to have a slight change but always end up with disappointment! My hair currently looks pinky purple, luckily it will wash out and I will never use this brand again! Please think before you buy :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anitra66 from Fine if it's your colour... Whilst I am a big fan of Casting Creme Gloss in general, this particular shade wasn't right for me. Frustratingly, L'Oreal have withdrawn my favourite, and closest to my real shade, Rich Espresso - which even my hairdresser had commented positively on - so I was forced to seek an alternative. This was either too cool, or too dark - I'm not sure which. My natural colour has some auburn tones, which seemed to be missing here. As with other colours in the range, I was happy with the mode of application, grey coverage, and staying power (I only wash my hair twice a week, so it lasts ages - long after roots need redoing anyway). It's just not the colour for me, and I still haven't found the one that is, if I can't have Rich Espresso. My only other comment, which applies to the whole range, is that I don't particularly like the conditioner, and usually substitute my own, after the initial colouring, which means I'm paying for a product I mostly discard. Recently, they've started boasting that the packs contain MORE conditioner - which to me just means I'm paying for even more of something unwanted. I'd rather save on the price, and use with my own choice of conditioner - which seems to work out just as well.

I used this to try and help tone my hair instead of putting on a permanent colour. Doesnt smell too great either, very chemically. I wont be buy this product again.

At the time I had dark blonde hair with horrible white blonde highlights so i thought this would blend them together more. The product itself did not feel stingy or irritable at all and the process was fairly easy. However, i was expecting a honey blonde colour and instead my hair is now... Ginger. Then again, it did give my hair a glossy look and the colour is quite lovely. If you buy this product i recommend doing a testing patch. If ginger is not your thing i would try something else.

Picked semi permanent as says will wash out after 28 washes and I love my natural hair colour but because I am having it up for the wedding wanted the natural Colour to have a boom to it so thought this would help. It did, it made my whole head look the same without adding much fake blonde to the colour thankfully so was unnoticeable to everyone i know. The sun does the same anyway to my hair. But let's face it not been that much sun. So anyway then after 4 weeks (I wash my hair every day) the dye hasn't worn off but yep my roots look obvious, hideous and everyone now knows I dyed it after being completely against it. Fuming. So still left my hair to see what would happen and after a month and half I still have this bloody dye in my hair and grown out roots. Wrecking my natural hair and after washing every day it is definitely not semi wash out hair dye.

I thought I'd try Chocolate Fudge on my dark brown hair to give it a chocolately shine, but it just left it with a purple sheen! My lighter roots were noticeably more purple, which looks horrible. On the plus side it covered my greys so at least that's something. Will go for a dark brown next time, and hope it's less purpley.

I bought it in chocolate truffle and the colour at first was lovely very rich and glossy (a little darker than the box but then it always is until the first wash). However, unfortunately after just over 2 weeks (8 washes) the colour has disappeared and has washed out completely. I use standard L'Oreal shampoo for reference. A real shame as it's just not feasible to re-colour every fortnight.

After 6 weeks of vosene and needing to do my roots and small amount of grey I opted nervously to try this shade as the harhness of permanent colours had.damaged my hair. This shade is lovely more warmth more natural anf not Jet blk like iced latte and light broen. My roots have gone a little warmer than the ends but thats because my roots were virgin hair. I like this shade I would say its more light warm brown than a blonde shade. Really nice so glad my hairs not gone darkest brown again as I dont suit my hair dark. A word of warning I have coloured my hair for many years and have learnt the hard way box colours always go alot darker so always go lighter if in doubt.

These dyes have always left my hair silky soft and shiny after using. However, 600 Light Brown was a terrible colour that I would not recommend! My hair had not been dyed for a few months and was therefore my natural mousy brown/light blonde. 600 Light Brown has no depth of colour and has a rather blonde base. My hair does not look very different aside from looking more blonde! Not what I wanted! I am quite sure I have used this colour previously and therefore think L'Oreal may have changed the formula again. Conditioner also seems to be different.

My hair was also a bit dry at first but that did pass fairly quickly after washing and conditioning a couple of times. I don't think the colour does match what's said on the box completely and a couple of people have also said they found the colour to look darker than they thought it would but overall I am pleased with how it looks, i didn't find the darker colour to be an issue i really like it. Overall I would recommend buying a shade lighter than what you would like but I think it is a good dye and I was very pleased with how the colour turned out.

I've been back at my natural colour for a while now, maybe since last summer but over winter, it began to look dull so I bought Casting Creme Gloss in Amber to make my natural ginger look more vibrant. The colour I achieved is NOTHING like what is on the box. My hair is now a brown colour with hints of red. I'm so disappointed and upset because I went dark over a year ago and it took a long time for that to come out and now I'm right back to square one because of this hair dye! I've never had any trouble with casting creme gloss before so this really has made me think twice about using it again. I used Nice n Easy last time to help my hair look more natural and that worked a treat so I'd definitely recommend that over this.

It lasts about three weeks depending on how much you wash your hair. The conditioner leaves my hair really shiny and I have used quite a few shades but this chocolate shade blends in very nicely.
